Once known as 'Timber Canyon,' this rustic community is located in eastern Orange County in the Santa Ana Mountains. The Cleveland National Forest connects Silverado Canyon and Maple Springs, where off-road and hiking enthusiasts complete this approx. 10-mile climb, Passing Bedford Peak, then arriving at Bald Peak (the boundary between Orange and Riverside Counties), Silverado Motorway is the most strenuous part of the hike, an abandoned fire road with a 2000-foot vertical rise and stunning views of Mount Baldy and the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, and Santiago Peak. For those who prefer lower elevations, many outdoor areas exist to explore. Road bicyclists and motorbikes roar and pedal on miles of rolling hills and challenging climbs.
