Santa Ana, Orange County, California

Santa Ana is Spanish for ‘Saint Anne.’ Originally called Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, it was renamed Santa Ana when William H. Spurgeon purchased 70 acres of the land in 1869. Incorporated as a city in 1886, it serves as the county seat and is the second most populated city in Orange County (after Anaheim). Also known as “Downtown Orange County”, Santa Ana was a central part of the growth and prosperity of Orange County, especially during World War 2 when an Army Air Base and training center brought servicemen and their families to settle in Southern California.

By the 1970s, economic inequality and perceptions between Latino and White residents had driven home values down while surrounding cities like Laguna Beach and Newport Beach increased in value. The population of Latinos residents increased from 40,000 to 90,000, and any efforts to gentrify Downtown Santa Ana were put aside as businesses focused on creating a Mexican cultural and working-class commercial zone. This sustained the Downtown area, which is today a thriving and diverse business district.

Arts and Culture

Santa Ana Artists Village was created around Cal State Fullerton's Grand Central Art Center to attract artists and young professionals to the area.  In 2007, the Yost Theater, (a historic landmark which began in 1913 as the “Auditorium Theater” housing vaudeville, silent films, and talkies) opened as a concert and live performance venue. Many buildings in Santa Ana are on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Spurgeon Building, Santa Ana’s first skyscraper with its iconic clock tower.

The Bowers Museum has art exhibits and artifacts that explore human cultures all over the world. The Santa Ana Zoo (opened in 1952) was built on land donated by Joseph Prentice who stipulated that the city keep at least 50 monkeys at all times. The zoo is visited by 270,000 people annually and has a Ferris wheel, carousel, train, and extensive primate collection.  On the first Saturday of each month, the Downtown Santa Ana Artwalk event is attended by local arts organizations, restaurants and live bands. ‘Fiestas Patrias’ is an annual festival celebrating Latino and Hispanic cultures and is enjoyed by locals and visitors and ‘A Fiesta of Flavors - Taste of Santa Ana’ in October is the perfect way for foodies to sample dishes from top local restaurants and cafes as well as breweries.

Entry Systems did a fantastic job fixing the hydraulic arm on one of my gates after a contractor damaged it. They provided a competitive price and procured the replacement arm and then scheduled the job quickly. Their installer was knowledgeable and had the gate working well within a few hours. I highly recommend Entry Systems!

There’s a reason why I called this company once again and that’s because they are friendly/honest professionals. David came out as scheduled and provided me the details of what needed to be done. The spring broke making my garage door inoperable. I went with the upgraded springs which were more durable. He was done within the hour and we tested the unit to make sure it functioned properly. Save yourself the time calling around…this company is legit!!

Even though I've been using Entry systems for years now, it's not like I need them except every so often. Abraham, typical of their technicians, was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and informative. He did a great job, was right on time (even a few minutes early), and explained everything to me. I would recommend his service to anyone. Most recently I had two other techs and they were equally as friendly helpful and punctual. They were good communicators. That's why I keep using them.
