The City of Anaheim Hills, Orange County, CA
Also known as ‘The Mother Colony,’ Anaheim Hills was Southern California’s first planned community. It was part of the land granted to Jose Antonio Yorba and his nephew in 1810. In 1943, Louis Nohl and his family owned a ranch and grew avocados and 23 acres of oranges on about 5,800 acres until the post-World War II years when housing developments started to take the place of farmland in Orange County. In 1970, 4,200 acres of Nohl Ranch were deeded to Santa Anita Consolidated Inc., and along with Texaco Industries, they announced plans to build upscale estates with the finest homes located in an exclusive, low-density area. Surrounded by groves of sycamore and eucalyptus trees, hiking trails, and a golf course, the first neighborhood, Westridge completed in 1972. This was followed by Bauer, Oak Hills, and Wallace ranches. Parks and shopping centers followed in the 1980s, as well as tennis, horse riding, and many other activities. Today, Oak Canyon Nature Center, Yorba Regional Park, with fishing and a duck pond are favorite outdoor places to spend time with the family. You can drive to Newport Beach or spend a fun-filled afternoon at Disneyland or Angel Stadium. Also nearby is Anaheim's ‘Center City’ with many year-round events, including farmer’s markets and live music. Walking through this area, you will also find many restaurants serving delicious food and gift shops.
