David H. Showed up within 1/2 hour and immediately replaced the garage door springs. He even placed a brace on one side of garage door to make it more stable since the brace/bolts there were bent. Very pleased with him as he informed me of every step of what he was doing. Would I recommend him/company?… you bet I would. The service is very professional and the job is very well done. Thank you David for your great work.

Simply the best! Don’t waste timing checking out the other vendors, this is the one. I called on a Monday morning to have my garage door keypad checked out and after less than 2 hours it was fixed. The whole team was amazing to work with and John S. was exceptional on site. He guided us through the changes and made us feel comfortable with the whole process.

We Fix & Repair Broken Garage Doors

Repairing a garage door often comes at the worst time. A broken garage door can be noisy, annoying, and sometimes not functioning entirely!

Luckily, Entry Systems has a team of professional service technicians who provide professional and timely garage repair services.

With over 50 years of servicing South Orange County, we're not surprised by any garage door problem and specialize in repair and replacement.

Our services include new door installations, new garage door installations, garage door section replacement, broken spring replacement, sensor adjustments, and cable installations.

How much should it cost to repair a garage door?

The cost of repairing a garage door should not exceed 70% of a new garage door price.  Otherwise, you may want to consider replacing it.

An ethical garage door company will give you an option to replace instead of putting a lot of money into an existing door.

But unethical companies will sell you repairs equivalent to the price of new garage doors or even exceed that!

Is this an issue with the garage door opener or the garage door itself?

Repairs related to the garage door opener are often minor repairs that will be the cheapest (small parts plus some labor). Small mechanical parts do not usually exceed $50. Electronic components can be anywhere from $50-$200. Circuit boards are costly.

Garage door openers that are older than ten years have many mechanical parts that are reasonably inexpensive. As garage doors have turned more into computers, they have very few elements in the motorhead itself. It is primarily a circuit board and a DC motor, and those components are costly.

Suppose your circuit board is broken or fried. In that case, it may be worth it financially to just replace the whole system because of ordering a new board and the cost of replacement labor. Garage door circuit board repair costs are high.

Garage Door Opener Repair Costs

If your repair is extensive and multiple parts need to be replaced, it can be more expensive, especially if more time is needed.

For example, replacing the entire garage door opener unit is costly because of materials costs and extended labor to take down and put in the new garage door opener.

On the other hand, suppose you only need a new remote, keypad, or programming to your car, a simple adjustment, or maintenance. In that case, the cost of this type of service will be the least expensive.

But if your garage door is not working and someone needs to come out and diagnose it, you will need to pay for that time.

Entry Systems' technicians carry standard parts on their trucks. If it is a special order, there will be an extra charge for a return visit and the uncommon part, plus the regular labor charge.

You may save money regarding additional costs, but you may draw the job out longer as you wait for special order equipment to arrive.

Although replacing the garage door opener is the most expensive option, it also is the quickest turnaround.

Should I call the manufacturer's tech support line if my garage door opener is not working?

If your garage door opener was installed within the last five years, we recommend first calling the company that installed it to see if there is any warranty from the manufacturer.

Entry Systems offers a one-year labor warranty. Anything we do under a manufacturer's warranty outside this time will result in a labor charge.

If you are handy or want to simplify the process, you can go directly to the manufacturer, who will ship parts directly to you.

Manufacturer customer service agents will help you troubleshoot your issue and provide professional technical support over the phone. This is helpful if you can avoid paying a company to come out and diagnose for you.

We often have customers who call, already knowing the issue with their garage door opener, received the parts in the mail, and just need those to be installed. This is a less expensive route, but there is always a chance that the representative will misdiagnose the issue over the phone. This can result in the garage door issue continuing longer and the customer spending more time on the problem.

Often customers will call us first to have the issue taken care of fast. The brand Liftmaster now has a dealer sticker option in their MyQ app. See the below video to learn how to add this feature to your garage door opener. This option makes it possible for you to put in Entry Systems' code and have a health report sent directly to us. The error code is shared with us as soon as it occurs and we will contact you as quickly as possible.

This simple step removes a lot of time and research trying to figure out who the manufacturer of their garage door opener is and what model it is. It is also challenging sometimes to remember the contact information for their garage door repair company.

My garage door won't open! What should I do?

If your garage door does not move, first check to ensure that your garage door opener has power.

In that case, the door won't move, and there would be no sounds coming from the motor. This also may mean that your garage door opener is not receiving a signal from your remote or the wall button.

Next:
  1. Check that there is power at the garage door opener's outlet.
  2. Try the remote or the button on the wall to see if the opener attempts to run.
  3. Check and see if the sensors in the opening of the garage door light up.

If they are not lighting up, then this is a power issue. Suppose everything is lit up, press a button, and the motor still does not work.

That means that the circuit board is probably fried because of a power outage, and maybe the surge blew the circuit board or the transformer.

It could also be a blown capacitor which means you might hear a clicking sound which means it is trying to trigger, but it doesn't have a starter to start it up.

If there is power and the motor tries to open the door, you push the button. It goes up a couple of inches or a foot, or it is jammed, indicating resistance.

Has your slide lock been accidentally engaged, and the motor pulls against that lock? In that case, you can undo the lock and free it.

There is also an autolock on some models which stays permanently latched if they malfunction or fail. Again, you can just unlatch this.

However, broken springs is the most common issue.

Image of a woman in a dark garage looking at her lit up garage door opener that needs repair.
This is a picture of a torsion spring for a garage door.

The garage door's weight has increased and the motor senses that it has to exert more force than it is used to or can lift. If the garage door already had some issues besides the springs and is rubbing or jammed, the motor might have the same result: it is trying to pull the door open with the arm, and it is wedged.

This can result in the motor feeling like it exerts too much force. To eliminate this, you can disengage the motor with the door shut, pull the motor's cord, and try to move the door by hand.

Remember: you never want to disengage the motor from the door when it is open because that is a safety issue. But with the door shut, you can pull the cord, disengage the motor and attempt to lift it.

If you can lift it with no or minimal effort, this means that there is nothing wrong with the door.  However, suppose you cannot move it because of the weight, or it is challenging and takes multiple people. That is a serious issue and is either a broken spring or a spring about to break.

There is always a chance that the motor senses resistance that is not there because it needs maintenance.  This is very common with screw drive motors, mainly when they lose their grease during the hot Orange County summer and the grease freezes during the winter.

This process often results in insufficient grease for the long screw to turn when operating, giving the motor a false sense of resistance due to weight or struggle.
