Entry Systems Garage Doors and Gates has been working in Irvine since 1972. The city's development began in the 1960s, and it was incorporated in 1971. For about 2,000 years, the indigenous Gabieleno people occupied Irvine. In 1769, Gaspar de Portola helped establish forts, missions, and cattle herds, then the King of Spain divided up the land for missions and private usage. Finally, the Mexican government divided the last into three land grants once they became independent from Spain in 1821.

Along with a few partners, James Irvine began buying these land grants and other adjoining parcels of land and formed the Irvine Company. The Irvine Company is the private company that developed the city of Irvine. The city of Irvine is home to several higher education institutions such as the University of California, Irvine (UCI), Concordia University, Irvine Valley College, the Orange County Center of the University of Southern California (USC), and campuses of California State University Fullerton (CSUF), University of La Verne, and Pepperdine University. In addition, Irvine is divided into "villages" or townships. Each of these contains houses that are similarly designed and shopping centers, schools, and religious institutions nearby.

Housing

Most of these townships have Home Owners Associations (HOAs), except parts of the Village of Northwood, which does not pay HOA fees. These homes built in the early 1970s lack uniformity in appearance because of the lack of HOA, which gives this village a more independent look and feel. This village does not have the same amenities, such as swimming pools, tennis courts, and parks. The Irvine Company built Irvine Spectrum as an outdoor shopping center on the southeast edge of Irvine, beginning construction in 1995 and completing the final phase in 2006. This mall has a Nordstroms, Target, a ferris wheel, and a 21-screen IMAX movie theater. The shopping center's design is based on Moroccan architecture, with a white obelisk that features the word SPECTRUM visible at night from the freeway.
